about text

Tiny little scenes for a tiny little stage. Tiny little situations from tiny little lives. A bit from here, a bit from there, but put together with one vehement stroke: how we bootleg, how we knock on doors, how we play revolution, how difficult it is to get a wife, what crazy coincidences we encounter, how the waves crash against the pier, how we get pregnant, how we won’t do better than planned, how we love listening to Rachmaninoff, how transient we are, how we lack nothing, how we are all already following the spring fashion, how we reproach ourselves, how women rule over the UN, what a rich nation we are, how the house is warm again, how far Latin script will take us, how huge sacks cannot persuade us, how we row tirelessly, how we will not be issued consent, how we belch, how we like to sing, how we’re more or less amateurs ... and more and more little games and ludisms like that, which can also end in death without any justice. Let us therefore lose ourselves in the playful theatre poetry that stretches from realistic to fantastic scenes. Poetry that is in its base still Slovenian but at the same time turns in different directions, all directions; metaphysics and its parody at the same time, simultaneously mischievously critical and encouragingly humorous.
The Bitter Fruits of Justice by the contemporary Slovenian poet, dramatist, and translator Milan Jesih will open the new small stage – a stage that is the realisation of a long-time dream of the theatre in Nova Gorica, its ensemble, and also its audience. The text that has been staged only once, in 1974 in the Glej Experimental Theatre (as it was then called), is coming to our stage under the direction of Andrej Jus, a representative of the younger generation of directors whose work is oriented towards the actors and their inner and outer playfulness, a director who establishes genuine human connection with the audience. In this way, in its first season the small stage will mostly belong to the youth and their understanding of the world and the theatre. After all, the future is also theirs.
