Amo essere

The central theme of the devised theatre project Amo essere, is the female body. Mentored by Mojca Madon, nine high school students used Anja Novak – Anjuta’s poetry collection Žilažili as the foundation for their project. Throughout the creative process, they also drew inspiration from Novak’s award-winning play The Text of the Body.  

TIn the devised scenes, the girls, with the support of actress Lina Akif and dramaturg Katja Markič – co-mentors who worked with them for a couple of weeks – created different performance fragments, recorded their thoughts about their own bodies and intertwined their perspectives and poetry. For centuries, the female body has been a battleground, a setting for religious and political struggles. How do young girls experience their bodies in the modern world? These reflections led to the creation of the devised theatre project Amo essere, which is also the name of a popular Italian brand of sweets and translates to “I love to be.”
