A biographical drama about Simon Gregorčič, the nightingale of Gorica, who more than a century ago longed and poured his heart into poetry, is a story about rises and falls of a human being, one who thinks deeply about everything that surrounds him, and feels even more deeply. A life path of a poet, unusually varied for a catholic priest, reflects the spirit of the time in which the desire for national unity and the battle to preserve the Slovene language was born. Gregorčič's opinion on these great question is written into a number of nationalist poems. The long struggle that sprang out between his supporters and zealous opponents almost grew into a political confrontation between the liberals and the traditionalists. The attacks on the artists sensitive heart, at first so pure, open and free from any malice, made him doubt himself and his artistic power. Constant creative crises and bouts of depression caused him many health problems that eventually killed him. Through all this, his unrequited, yet never forgotten feelings for a girl that were transformed into exquisite love poems seep through like rays of sun.

After Trieste-Lessandria EMBARKED and Eda – the Rusjan Brothers Story, the author and director Neda Rusjan Bric tackles the themes from the Primorska region for the third time, because she's convinced that the insight into the history can help us understand and form our present. Gregorčič's life path leads her to questioning the pressure of institutions – be it the church, family, school, or state – on a person. Does he still bows in front of them today? Is it possible to coexist with them, or is it essential that we fight them?
