The Geometry of a Fall

At the Peace Memorial and an observation tower at Cerje, the production Borderless Body charted an artistic trace which this time leads deeper into the inner landscape of the Karst – into a dialogue with the poet of this space, Srečko Kosovel. The Geometry of a Fall is a dance performance that explores Kosovel’s cognitive and emotional side, it is a dive into the inner architecture of the body and society. The first part emanates from Kosovel’s early poems replete with the themes of individuality, aloneness and the sense of fragility in the world. These sentiments are replicated to the present day when the body becomes a space of vulnerability and resistance of an individual. A subtle emotional dynamic emerges and opens space to reflect on the position of an individual in contemporary society. The second part is related to Kosovel’s Kons poems – the visionary poetry constructs in which the social, technological and existential dimensions of the world open. This fragmentary structure is then shaped into a score, based on the impulse and the intertwining of the contemporary and urban movement that destroys the established structures and opens the space of collective dynamics. The body becomes a tool to explore the authentic expression in a time when the society decomposes and recomposes into new forms.

The Geometry of a Fall, in which the SNT Nova Gorica actors also participate and bring additional dimensions of the word, voice and body to it with their presence and deepen the link with the literary origin, continues the MN Dance Company’s mission – connecting dance to literature, theatre, community and global artistic context. The production intertwines the intimate and the communal; the physical and the social, and realises the vision of modern dance as a space of reaching beyond borders and creating new communities and introduces the poet in a contemporary, authorial and interdisciplinary language.

Kosovel’s poetry, to us, is movement. By dancing, we wish to translate the movement into the body, so that we can feel the rhythm of his mind.
